Just 45 minutes drive away, past the spectacular Mont St Victoire
so often painted by Cézanne, is Aix-en-Provence, one of the
most stunning cities in Europe. The former capital of Provence,
it has retained much of its 17th and 18th century character.
Three days a week, colourful markets occupy the squares of the
old town of Aix. You can sit in one of the many cafés, promenade
along the Cours Mirabeau, shop in the boutiques or wonder around
the museums. There's usually something going on the International
Music Festival (July-August), Christmas markets, vintage car rallies,
to name but a few.
Other local festivals take place throughout the year including
the festival of St Pothin, the patron saint of Varages.
And the beautiful cities of Avignon, Marseille and Nice, all within
1 hours drive, have so much to offer.
