R : How did the holiday go ?
N : The holiday’s been fantastic … exactly what we needed, lots of peace and quite, beautiful countryside…
M : Glorious weather…
N : We think the house itself is superb, and the highlight is this beautiful walled garden and the swimming pool … it’s great for children ..great for us to relax and cool off and … it’s superb really.
M : The great thing for us is that there’s some shade at every part of the day … so if you’ve got little ones they can enjoy it all day long you don’t have to rush around getting them inside out of the sun … it’s been fantastic.
R : And anything stuck out that was particularly good ?
N : I just think that just the quality and the standard has been of a high level …. it’s been lovely.. I mean talking about Varages …it’s a quite peaceful town.
M : Enjoyed the lakes ….we went to lake St Croix, that’s fantastic ….
N : the beach there is great for kids … lovely swimming areas … beautifully warm …….I had trepidations … I’m used to Alpine lakes were you turn into a bloke of ice very quickly …but it’s so warm you go straight in and it’s lovely.
M : Soph, did you enjoy the lake … did you swim in the lake ?
S : Yes.
M : We got peddleows didn’t we Soph…
S : And Daddy can jump off the boat ….
M : and you didn’t let him, you were too scarred that he’d make a bug splash and a wobble.
N : Other places … Aix-en-Provence is a beautiful town …absolutely beautiful we went on a market day and that was superb …. The quality of the stalls … just a lovely lovely town ….I’d love to live there.
Cotignac, we’ve been twice, we took the kids there for brunch and pancakes and that’s been superb … lovely little town.
But really we spent most of the time lazing around the pool doing what we should be doing which is chilling out …
M : just relaxing … I mean every evening we sat outside and had our meal, barbequed, it’s been beautiful …
R : So it was a holiday that suited the family … okay for the younger children ?
M : Really lovely family holiday … perfect for all of us basically … it was just so nice. We didn’t have to go out nights … it was nice to eat in, get the kids in bed and then just have an adult relaxed time, it was great.
R : Nick, apparently you went golfing…
N : Yes keen golfer along with my brother-in-law Robert. We played first of all at Brignoles at ‘Barbaroux’, which is nice, very nice course …. but the best course we played was at Nans-les-Pans which is superb … recommend it to anybody. It goes down as, and we both said this, as one of the best courses we’ve played anywhere … and I’ve played in a few around the world … really super course. We played there twice, best test of anything. It’s usually play there once and then move on when you’re on holiday …
R : I’m not actually a golfer, so tell me why it was so particularly good…
N : Nicely laid out, it’s challenging but not too difficult, it’s beautifully maintained, I mean in this climate to keep the fairways and the greens so beautifully green and well cultivated. The staff were so friendly and courteous, beautiful club house. It was just the complete package really…
Very very high standard of golf. Higher standard than the players! …. the play didn’t quite live up to it (the standard of the course). There’s a liberal sprinkling of English golf balls around French fairways! I’d recommend it to anybody… |
